High Stakes Poker 5×01 - 01 / Mar / 2009 - Season 5, Episode 1
The 5th Season of High Stakes Poker returns to the Golden Nugget casino. Some of our old favorites are back, as well as some of the hottest online poker players. The new poker room has a fish tank, but not the type of fish the pros would have loved the Golden Nugget to have brought in.
Peter Eastgate joins the table, the 2008 WSOP main event champion, he is 23 year old (born December 13, 1985) and the youngest player ever to win the WSOP. Tom “Durrrr” Dwan is also at the table, he is one of the best of the best online poker players, and also a young player, only 22 years old (born July 30, 1986 in Edison, New Jersey).
The two young guns play the first hand and Tom Dwan takes it down. Doyle Brunson and Barry Greenstein make a joke about how loose these new, young players are when a king-nine can take down a pot worth more than most college students earn in a year.
Tom Dwan throws out a great little fact nugget at Daniel Negreanu, “You can’t win when you fold.” and then folds straight away when Doyle Brunson smooth calls with a huge pocket pair of kings. The hand gets more exciting when Daniel flops a gutshot straight flush draw. It checks down to the river with nothing exciting advancing the hand and Daniel has to fold out with nothing when Doyle bets about $30k into a $45k pot.
One of the most exciting hand of the episode is probably a $175k pot between Peter Eastgate and Tom Dwan. Eastgate raises $2,500 in a late position with an Ace-Six hearts, Greenstein calls, Brunson calls, and Dwan comes in. The flop comes out 6d 5h 3d. Tom Durrrr Dwan has a Six-Seven of clubs and leads out with a $7700 bet. Eastgate calls, and everyone else gets out of the way. The turn card is the case 6 and durrrr puts out $20,500 and Peter Eastgate calls. The river comes out King of spades, helping no-one. Dwan leads again with a near pot bet of $53,900. Eastgate makes the call with his pair of Sixes and Ace kicker, winning $175,200.
